Pilot Projects
In September 2005, the Lake Erie Commission awarded a total of $596,514 in state grants to fund watershed protection pilot projects in the Toledo, Cleveland and Medina areas. These grants advance the Balanced Growth component of the Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan by promoting voluntary, orderly growth and conservation at the local level as a means of protecting water quality and other resources in the Lake Erie basin.
Funding for the grants, which is provided by the Ohio Water Development Authority and administered by the Commission, will be distributed to grantees over a three-year period.
In 2006, a fourth pilot project grant was awarded to the Cuyahoga River Community Planning Organization to develop a Balanced Growth Plan for Chippewa Creek, also in the Cleveland area. This project received federal dollars from a Coastal Management Assistance Grant in the amount of $35,950, which was matched by the recipient with $38,200 in local funds for a total project cost of $74,150. These funds are administered through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Office of Coastal Management.
Additional Planning Partnerships
