Lake Erie has always been one of Ohio's most important assets. Our future is likely to be even more dependent upon Lake Erie. We have to make certain that we treat this magnificent resource in a thoughtful and positive way. Ohio's Lake Erie Protection & Restoration Plan declared that the quality of Lake Erie is a reflection of the quality of the entire watershed. The Ohio Lake Erie Commission appointed a Balanced Growth Task Force of 30 experts from many walks of life and perspectives to evaluate how we can achieve balanced growth within Ohio's Lake Erie watershed. They were asked to recommend how to assure the economic growth that we require while at the same time protecting and preserving our natural resources which will enhance the quality of life now and for the future. Their recommendations are the basis for the Lake Erie Balanced Growth Program which is outlined here.
